Windows Server FAQ & Troubleshooting
Common questions, troubleshooting steps, and best practices for managing your Windows server.
What Should I Do If My Server Feels Laggy?
Server lag is typically caused by one of two factors:
-
RDP Connection Performance
Section titled “RDP Connection Performance”In many cases, the server itself is running normally, but your RDP connection is experiencing latency or visual lag. Common causes include:
- Slow or unstable internet connection
- High Wi-Fi congestion
- Connecting from a distant geographic location
- Multiple RDP sessions simultaneously
If possible, test from another network or device to determine whether the issue is connection-related.
-
High CPU or Memory Usage
Section titled “High CPU or Memory Usage”Applications running on your server may be consuming excessive resources. To check:
- Open Task Manager
- Identify any programs causing unusually high resource utilization
- Close unnecessary applications or restart the server
If resource usage remains high, consider upgrading to a larger server plan.
What Should I Do If I Cannot Connect to My Server?
Before opening a support ticket, perform the following checks:
-
Verify your Credentials
Section titled “Verify your Credentials”Ensure you are using the correct IP address, username, and password.
-
Ensure Your Server is Reachable
Section titled “Ensure Your Server is Reachable”One of the easiest ways to determine whether your server is online is by reviewing the error message you receive when attempting to connect via Remote Desktop (RDP). Error messages like “Your credential did not work” or “The logon attempt failed” usually indicates the server is online.
“Connection Error” or “Remote Desktop can’t connect to the remote computer may indicate the server is offline, restarting, experiencing network connectivity issues, or unreachable due to an expired Windows evaluation license. -
Check for Announced Downtime
Section titled “Check for Announced Downtime”Check for announcements, notifications, or emails from the Wealth Proxies team in case there is any scheduled maintenance or downtime (although uncommon).
-
Still Unable to Connect?
Section titled “Still Unable to Connect?”If you have confirmed your credentials are correct and continue receiving connection errors, please open a support ticket and provide:
- Your server IP address
- The exact error message
- A screenshot of the error (if possible)
This allows our team to troubleshoot the issue more quickly.
How Do I Change Server Password?
You can change your Windows server password directly through Command Prompt.
- Open Command Prompt
- Run the following command:
net user Administrator "NewPassword"- When prompted, enter your new password.
Important Notes
Section titled “Important Notes”- Passwords are case-sensitive.
- If your username is not
Administrator, replace it with your actual Windows username. - Use a strong password containing uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
What to do if you cannot connect to your server
Section titled “What to do if you cannot connect to your server”If you can’t connect to your server it is likely because you did not rearm your server (information in the Mandatory Server Upkeep section). If this is the case, please open up a support ticket so our team can manually reboot and rearm for you.
We also recommend checking any announcements, notifications, or emails from the Wealth Proxies team in case there is any scheduled maintenance or downtime (although uncommon).
Other Important Reminders
Section titled “Other Important Reminders”- It is highly recommended to update your server password regularly to ensure security.
- It is also recommended to regularly backup your data in case of any outages.
